RADIKAL – Radar technology for safer drone operations

The RADIKAL research project utilizes advanced radar technology for more reliable drone operations.

Research project RADIKAL for more reliable drone operations

The RADIKAL project (in German “Radarsensorik für automatisierte Drohnensteuerung mit intelligenter Kamera-Bildverarbeitung und abgesicherter Landung”) is exploring new ways to enhance flexibility and safety through the use of advanced radar sensors and cameras in AI-based sensor fusion models. The goal is to be able to react dynamically to obstacles during flight and landing, thereby increasing operational reliability. By researching new sensors and methodologies, flight systems are intended to become more reliable and safer, thereby enabling the enormous market potential to be exploited sustainably and over the long term.
To this end, new sensor designs and innovative AI functions are being integrated into logistics drones and tested and validated in realistic demonstration scenarios.

We are excited to explore the capabilities of these new technologies together with our partners Fraunhofer FHR, it-objects GmbH and Ruhr University Bochum.

This project is supported through funds of the European Union and Ministerium für Wirtschaft, Industrie, Klimaschutz und Energie des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen.
